Privacy Policy
Last updated
This policy explains what information the operator of PearlCV (“we” or “us”) handles through the PearlCV app and pearlcv.com, why, and the choices you have.
The short version
- The PearlCV app never sends us your profile or your CVs. They stay on your devices and, if you use iCloud, in your own private iCloud database.
- There is no account and no advertising, and the app never tracks you across apps or websites.
- To learn what to improve, the app counts which features are used, anonymously. You can turn this off.
- pearlcv.com counts visits with cookieless analytics that we run ourselves.
The PearlCV app
Your profile and CVs
Everything you write in PearlCV, including your name, contact details, roles, skills, photo and the CVs you make, is stored in a database on your device. We do not operate servers that receive it, and we cannot see it.
When iCloud is on for PearlCV, your profile and CVs sync between your devices through your private iCloud database, using Apple’s CloudKit. Apple stores them under its own privacy policy. Turning iCloud off for PearlCV keeps everything on that device only.
PDFs you export are made on your device and go only where you send or save them.
Applications
The jobs you keep in Applications, with their companies, status, details such as the salary you asked for, notes, the posting’s text and copies of the PDFs you record as sent, are stored and synced exactly like your profile and CVs.
When you paste a job’s link, or share one to PearlCV from Safari, the app downloads that page directly from the job site, on your device, to read the posting. The job site sees an ordinary visit from your device. Nothing about it is sent to us.
Photos
If you add a photo, you choose it with the system’s photo picker, which gives PearlCV that one image and nothing else from your library. PearlCV keeps a scaled-down copy with your profile.
Writing hints and the writing assistant
Hints such as “a number makes this stronger” come from simple rules that run on your device.
The writing assistant uses Apple Intelligence’s model on your device, never a server. What you type or say to it, the drafts it writes and the job postings it reads stay on your device; nothing is sent to us or to any AI company, and nothing is used to train a model. If you speak instead of typing, your device turns your voice into text with Apple’s on-device speech recognition; the audio is not recorded or kept. The microphone is used only while you dictate, after you allow it.
When you import a CV, PearlCV reads the file, photo, scan or LinkedIn export on your device, with Apple’s on-device text recognition for scans and photos and Apple Intelligence’s on-device model where it helps. The file and what is read from it go nowhere else. The camera is used only while you scan a paper CV, after you allow it, and the scanned pages are not kept once they are read.
Purchases
PearlCV Pro is sold by the App Store. Apple handles payment and tells the app whether your Apple Account has Pro, and when a weekly subscription renews or ends. We receive no payment details from the app.
Anonymous usage
To learn which features are useful and what to improve, the app counts how it is used: which screens are opened, such as the editor or export, and actions such as creating a CV, adding an application, choosing a template, adding a kind of section, fitting a CV to the page, exporting a PDF, writing a cover letter, importing a CV (what kind of file, and whether into a new profile), using the writing assistant, seeing the PearlCV Pro offer, or starting, completing or cancelling a purchase and which plan it was. Each count names only the feature, with fixed values such as the template or the kind of section. It never includes anything you write, such as your name, roles or bullets, and no account, device or advertising identifier. With each count, the app sends its version, your kind of device, its operating system version, the size of the app’s window and your language.
The counts go to Umami, the analytics tool we run on our own servers for pearlcv.com. It does not store your IP address and identifies visits with a hash that changes every day, so counts can’t be linked to you, or to each other across days.
This is on unless you turn it off in PearlCV’s Settings, under Share Anonymous Usage. When it is off, the app sends nothing.
Crash reports
If you choose to share analytics with app developers in your device’s settings, Apple may give us anonymous crash reports and usage statistics. They don’t include your CVs. You can turn this off in Settings, Privacy & Security, Analytics & Improvements.
pearlcv.com
To learn which pages are useful, we count visits with Umami, an analytics tool we run on our own servers. It sets no cookies, does not store your IP address, identifies visits with a hash that changes every day, and respects Do Not Track. It records the page, the referring site, your browser, device type and country, and a few actions such as following a link to the App Store.
Like any website, our servers and Cloudflare, which delivers the site, process your IP address and browser details to send you each page and protect the site from abuse. We keep server logs for a limited time for security and troubleshooting.
The site uses no cookies. If you choose a light or dark appearance, that choice is kept in your browser’s storage and never sent to us.
When you contact us
If you write to us, we use your email address and what you send us to reply and help you, and we keep that correspondence for as long as it is useful for supporting you.
Legal bases
Where the GDPR or similar laws apply, we rely on our legitimate interests to run, secure and understand the use of pearlcv.com and, through anonymous counts you can turn off, of the app, and on providing the help you ask for when you contact us.
Your rights
Your profile and CVs are in your hands: you can change or delete them in the app at any time, and remove them from iCloud in your device’s iCloud settings. For anything we hold, such as an email you sent us, you can ask us for a copy, a correction or its deletion, and you can complain to your data protection authority.
Children
PearlCV is a general-audience app. It doesn’t collect information from anyone, including children, beyond what this policy describes.
Changes
We may update this policy as PearlCV changes or the law requires. When a change matters, we will say so on this page and update the date above before it takes effect.
